Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan was laid to rest in north Karachi's Shah Muhammad graveyard on Friday.

His burial ceremony was held after his two sons arrived from the United States.

The District Municipal Corporation (DMC) supervised all the arrangements for the last rites of Hassan at Shah Muhammad graveyard, Geo news reported.

Volunteers from charitable organization Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) and liberal political party Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) controlled the crowd outside the graveyard.

His burial was attended by Pakistani artists and politicians.

The singer's funeral prayers were held at Noorani Mosque.

Hassan passed away in Karachi on on Wednesday after suffering from lung, chest and urinary tract diseases for several years.

He was 84.
