The President of A.M.P.T.P.P (Association of Motion Pictures and Television Program Producers) revealed that there was no question of imposing a ban on Shakti Kapoor, despite the disparaging remarks he made against leading names in the industry.
'We are certainly not in favor of imposing a ban considering that there are a number of films at stake, which have Kapoor in them and are currently under production. We do not want to ruin the continuity of those films and create problems for our member producers, irrespective of the length of Kapoor's roles in those films. The Guild members are unlikely to face this problem, since none of them have any ongoing films with him,' Nihalani revealed.
However, Nihalani also added that he was not in favor of imposing any ban on Kapoor even at a later date. 'I do agree that the loose talk he made about noted names in the industry must have offended the concerned people. But we are no God to deny an actor his source of livelihood. Besides, imposing a ban is too harsh a punishment knowing that he was framed in the whole incident,' Nihalani revealed.
According to the President of I.M.P.P.A. (Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association), Sushma Shiromani, the comments made by Kapoor against sections of leading names in the industry were certainly deplorable and in bad taste, but she and the other members were definitely not in favor of imposing a ban on him.
'We wouldn't like to get into any controversy vis-à-vis the other associations but we don't see a point in banning Kapoor. The people who are offended may or may not work with him in the future. Let us see how many of those against or for him, sign him in future projects,' she said.
Meanwhile in a new development, Shakti Kapoor stated that the Guild was planning to revoke the ban against him. 'The Guild members were pacified when they realized the circumstances under which I made those remarks. They have calmed down and are likely to retract their decision tomorrow,' Kapoor revealed.
