From action thriller he shifted to romantic comedy with 'Ajab Gazabb Love', and wants to try his hand at other genres as well. 'I want to make a pure drama, a horror film, and a musical after this. I don't see myself making 20 films. I just feel that only four-five are there left inside me, and by the end of it, I want to know myself.
'I am not on the planet earth to make 'Dhooms'. I have done it twice, I consider myself lucky to get the opportunity. At the end of the day it's just one of my films,' Gadhvi told in an interview. The director made 'Kidnap' after 'Dhoom 2', which didn't garner much success at the box office. 'I realised and understood the power of 'Dhoom' when 'Kidnap' released. It was like a slap on the face,' he said.
''Kidnap' was a serious film and now I have made an out and out comedy so that there is no way that this fails... I haven't heard of a film failing because it's too funny,' he added. Even after making films like 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai', 'Tere Liye' and 'Kidnap', the director is still known as the one who made 'Dhoom'.
'That's the one which had maximum impact. No matter what kind of films you make, the one that has maximum impact stays in people's mind. 'Dhoom' had a bigger impact than 'Dhoom 2'. So that's why I will be known as the guy who made 'Dhoom'. I can be misinterpreted that I make only 'Dhoom' kind of films. But I doubt the viewers even care so much,' he said.
According to Gadhvi, filmmaking is a very 'personal skill', and he makes films on certain subjects because he 'likes' them. 'At the same time I am conscious that it should be liked by everybody.
As I am spending more time in the show business, I am realizing that I need to be more assertive. I am very much a producer's director and want to make popular cinema. But I also want to get to know myself better and what better way to do that than to make films,' he said. 'Ajab Gazabb Love', starring Jackky Bhagnani and Nidhi Subbaiah, is releasing Friday.
