"I did read Udita's quotes and called her up subsequently. I think she was led into saying something she did not want to say. Neither I nor my uncles, Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt, are upset about it. On the contrary, we were quite amused by it. The story hasn't upset our relations nor has it created a rift between us. In fact, Udita has promised to attend my birthday party on April 11," Suri reveals.
Suri also adds that Udita never meant to say that she did not want to work with the Bhatts, as she was quoted. "From what I know, all she wanted to say was that she was not in favor of doing a film like ZEHER again, which limited her role to that of a seductress," Suri reveals.
However Suri does admit to having chopped scenes involving Udita in the film. "I don't deny that I did chop a few scenes. Udita did ask me about it at that point of time but I clearly told her that I was working in the interest of the story and the film and not to satisfy any actor. I was clear from the outset that I was selfish about the film and she perfectly understood it," Suri insists
According to him what must have probably upset Udita into making the allegations was the second half of the film, which gave the impression of her role being almost inconsequential.
"I had narrated the first half of the film to her prior to it going on the floor. The second half comprised of scenes that could not be narrated. She obviously didn't expect the second half to be as thrilling as it turned out to be. It turned out that Shamita had a prominent part in the second half, which probably gave Udita the impression that she was sidelined. In fact, Udita's role was similar to the one played by Emraan Hashmi in MURDER though it was Emraan who got more following in the film than Asmit Patel. In the case of ZEHER, Shamita also did an excellent job of her role in the film," Suri reveals.
Suri points out that if there was anything that was not in good taste it was the statement made by Udita labeling Shamita as an "item girl".
"She regretted it and called up Shamita to apologize what she had said. We have no problems with her or anyone else. In fact if the opportunity arises, I'd love to work with Shamita again," Suri says. All's well that's ends wells.
