For a change, however, filmmakers are using the latest cinematic techniques to bring home to the cinegoers, especially the youth, the richness of India's cultural heritage.
The latest in the line of 'modern cinematic ventures' that focuses on a legendary tale in Indian history through the use of the latest cinematic techniques - after the colourised version of the 60's classic by K Asif 'Mughal-e-Azam' and Akbar Khan's 'Taj Mahal-an Eternal Love Story'- is 'Bhagmati-Queen of Fortunes', a film based on the legendary love story between prince Mohammed Qutab Quli Shah and the beautiful dancer Bhagmati.
Touted as India's first 2D animated film, 'Bhagmati -Queen of Fortunes' is now ready for release and will hit the Indian as well as foreign screens in mid-June, Zee Telefilms, the producers of the film tells.
Bhagmati is the legend of the famed love story of Prince Mohammed Qutab Quli Shah and the beautiful dancer Bhagmati.
History says the fourth Qutab Shahi ruler built the city of Hyderabad at the behest of his ladylove.
The film, which has animated characters along with the lead pair of Tabu and Milind Soman, is the first major animation film in the history of Indian cinema, Vice President of the Corporate Brand Development Group, Zee Telefilms Ashish Kaul, said.
''Bhagmati has been a completely new endeavour. This is the first time in India that a mix of a love story and animation has been attempted. The film has over seven million hand-drawn frames and this process took some time to complete,'' he added.
The announcement comes close on the heels of filmmaker Akbar Khan recently announcing the release of 'Taj Mahal-an Eternal Love Story', a film on the legendary romance between Mughal Emperor Shahjahan and his queen Mumtaz, in May this year.
In the current scenario, when Indian cinema is finally gaining the much-needed acclaim and recognition internationally, films like Akbar Khan's 'Taj Mahal-an Eternal Love Story', the colourised version of 'Mughal-e-Azam' and 'Bhagmati-Queen of Fortunes', could be seen as attempts to showcase to the world India's rich cultural heritage as well as the latest technological leaps made by Indian cinema in recent years.
