The Bombay High Court Wednesday restrained police from taking film producer Gaurang Doshi into custody in connection with a complaint filed by his wife.

In its order, the court asked police to wait till the court heard the matter. The stay on Doshi's arrest passed by judge A.M. Khanwilkar will be in effect till May 2.

Doshi, producer of "Ankhen" and "Deewar", has been accused by his wife Madhuri of harassing her for dowry.

Doshi approached the high court after a lower court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.

In her complaint, Madhuri accused Doshi of physical and mental harassment, assault and cruelty.

The two were married in December 1994 and have a daughter.
