Designer Suneet Varma has vowed to sue fellow designer Aki Narula, who styled for actors in the film, the filmmakers and actress Rani Mukherjee for sporting a blue poncho with tassels in the film's advertisements without any credit or payment to him.
"I made that poncho," Suneet told. "It has been published in my ads for the last few months and now I suddenly see Rani Mukherjee wearing it in the film's posters.
"And Aki is the costume designer. It's a direct lift."
Narula counters that he had no clue about the poncho being Varma's work and bought it off the shelf from a Mumbai store. "Anyone who styles anything, including a film, knows that not everything is made by the designer who is styling the thing. It's a question of putting things together," tells Narula.
"All the stylists are on my side. Am I mad that I'll copy something for a product that 800 million people would see?
"If Suneet thinks this will give him some extra publicity so be it."
Varma is determined to get to the bottom of this. "I told Aki if he has bought it from somewhere he should be able to show me a bill. Then I'll take the shop to task. How can they sell something without my name or any credit or any money coming to me?"
In the middle of all this, the fate of Yashraj Films' "Bunty Aur Babli" - starring Rani Mukherjee, Abhishek and Amitabh Bachchan seems uncertain.
