This time, for Sujoy Ghosh's Home Delivery.
Ghosh himself faced the camera for a cameo in Onir's My Brother Nikhil. "I thought I gave the best performance in the film," smiles Ghosh.
"With directors turning to acting, I think stars have good reason to feel threatened. But seriously, I'm glad Karan has agreed to be in my film. He'll play himself. I'm also getting Juhi Chawla to make an appearance in the film. I can't imagine making a film without her," says Ghosh.
Vivek Oberoi plays the lead in Home Delivery. Ghosh, whose film Jhankaar Beats went on to become a cult hit and the only truly successful "multiplex film", has been struggling to put together his post-debut film for nearly two years now.
"It took me six months to write my script. And then the casting process began. Besides Vivek, I've got Boman Irani, Ayesha Takia and Mahima Chaudhary."
Shabbir Boxwallah, a close associate of Rajiv Rai, will produce the film for Sahara and Percept Films. Like Jhankaar Beats, Ghosh's new venture will have music by Vishal-Shekhar. "I can't make a film without music. I've already recorded the title song.
Someone up there will love it," says the young director who recently lost his father.
Ghosh describes his new film as an emotional comedy. "There are risqué jokes, and then there are the naughty but nice jokes that one can share in civil company. Home Delivery falls in that category."
He admits he's moved on to this project only because his film with Amitabh Bachchan got delayed. "I was dying to make my dream film, Borivili, with Mr Bachchan.
But there's a slight problem. I'm not leaving this industry until I make my film with Mr Bachchan. So if they want me out, they had better make sure I get to make Borivili."
