Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has taken the social networking route for a campaign titled MARD - Men Against Rape and Discrimination. It aims to sensitise men towards the safety of women.

"If you are a man who respects women... her rights, her dignity, her independence, her mind, her body, her life... you are a MARD," tweeted Farhan.

Farhan has urged all men to sport the logo of MARD on their clothes and take the message across the country.

"No restrictions on use of logo. Will be uploading a high resolution file soon. Please feel free to print and wear with pride. MARD," he added.

Farhan has especially urged school authorities to start teaching boys about gender awareness at a very young age.

"Teach them at the age when self awareness begins that being a man involves compassion, gender sensitivity and respect for women," he wrote.

Farhan has often spoken about women's safety and had even written a poem on women-related issues after a young girl was gang-raped in the capital Dec 16, 2012.
