The actress performed with her group at Town Hall in Dehradun, Uttarakhand to celebrate the rise of every woman against violence.
On this occasion, Swara said: "We at Swaang are all a group of artists who have had some or the other involvement in progressive culture and politics and we feel a collective rage against all the violence and injustice that we saw around us. "
"After the Delhi gang rape in a moment of deep anguish, anger and shame, Maa Nee Meri was written by our lyricist Ravinder Randhawa and composed by Rohit Sharma. We released it on YouTube and it received a great response. That's when we gained confidence that it's not necessary for everything that is fun and entertaining to be vulgar and obscene. "
"Maa Nee Meri and our other songs are an effort to raise pertinent questions and protest injustices that take place within our society in a creative and fun-catchy manner.
"The show in Dehradun last evening and both the shows in Delhi generated an immensely enthusiastic audience response. It's clear that if you provide listeners and viewers with an alternative, they will appreciate it.
"We can as a culture move beyond the vulgarity, obscenity and violent representation of women; we just need to provide audiences with an alternative, " she said.
Swaang performed in Delhi as well on Apr 1 2013 at IHC (Stein Auditorium) and on Apr 3 at JNU, Open Air Theatre, KC Complex.
