Finally, the film industry has taken a responsible step towards rape and sexual crimes against women. Maverick producer Siddhartha M Jain, has teamed up with acclaimed writer and director Sanjay Chhel to make a film titled Kill The Rapist. It's a strong film against criminals.
Siddhartha says, `With great power, comes greater responsibility. Cinema is a very powerful tool. While we celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema, I thought nothing better than using cinema as a tool to not only bring awareness. But put pressure on law enforcers and the public take strong steps.`
Jain who owns iRock, the leader in edgy, youth content, had created and produced Ragini MMS and recently finished shooting Disco Valley.
When quizzed on the content, he said Kill The Rapist is a very sensitive, inspiring and motivating film for women. It is not based on the Delhi incident and is neither sensational nor scandalous. It's a fictional 90 minute engaging thriller-drama with three girls and one man.`
Filmmaker Sanjay Chhel adds, `We are attacking a burning issue that's emotionally tearing our nation, in a very sensitive and emotional, yet powerful way.
I am using three girls to represent three different points of view in our society. We start shoot soon and it's a quick film. We are flooded with calls from celebrities wanting to endorse the cause and help market this film.
Though I am known for my comedy writing in Rangeela, Yes Boss, Partner, Dil To Bacha Hai Ji, etc., but Kill The Rapist, is a culmination of my almost three decades of film writing and study of life and characters. This film will spray venom for 90 minutes on the manhood of inhuman criminals`.
Siddhartha ends by saying, `I had tears in my eyes, when I read about the brutality of Nirbhaya, the Delhi girl. I had then resolved to use all my resources, to not let the issue die down.
A portion of the film profits will go towards a rape awareness and victim rehab foundation. Kill The Rapist will continue the fight against rapists, and not be subtle about it any more. Our Facebook page has viralled on its own.
More than 22, 000 people have joined the movement in a span of two weeks. If this film can scare even one potential rapists, our job is done. The mood of the nation is not very forgiving and rapists, beware!`
