For the first time in her decade-long career, Rani Mukerji plays a prostitute in Ketan Mehta's The Rising.
She's been cast opposite Aamir Khan again, seven years after their pairing in Ghulam.
"In The Rising, I play a prostitute called Heera who belongs to the 18th century, when only whites used to
frequent brothels for carnal pleasure. You have to change your entire body language when you set out to
portray such a character."
"Prostitutes aren't conscious about their body at all, because they treat it as a commodity on sale. Those
who set out to play prostitutes must be "khullam khulla" because it is their business to lure customers.
Though I didn't visit Mumbai's red light district, Kamathipura to study prostitutes' behaviour, I realised that
every prostitute has a peculiar ada. Though my character is a bit raunchy, I enjoyed playing the role to the
hilt."
