Pop superstar Madonna says she is stunned she has fallen in love with London because she once detested it.

The "Material Girl" gave up her life in Los Angeles and moved to the British capital after her marriage to director Guy Ritchie five years ago, reports celebrity portal Femalefirst.

She realised she would had to move here if her marriage was going to be a success.

"I moved (to London) for love. I never thought in a million years I'd live in London. I quite disliked the place. Then I met my husband. I realised that if I didn't live here I wouldn't get to see him very much," she said.

"We had a long-distance relationship for a year. I thought somebody has to compromise - which I did. Then I fell in love with London and Guy started taking me to the countryside and I started to feel comfortable here."
