Anupam Kher was last seen in Silver Linings Playbook, will soon be anchoring an television show. In a chat with CS, the 58-year-old shares his thoughts on cinema

Medium doesn't matter
For me, the medium doesn't make a difference. I have done television, films and theatre and I feel one can be good or bad in all the three platforms. I've done television shows for children in the past and it's been an enriching experience. Besides, the gap between big and small screen has reduced a lot over the years.

Comfortable space
Today, I can safely state that I'm content with myself as an actor and a person. I begin my every role from scratch, as if I don't know anything about acting or the character. This approach gives me the incentive to do something different each time and also offers me the option to faltering. It makes the journey more enjoyable. Life is 80% monotony and 20% thrill, the trick is to enjoy the monotony.

On a roll
Due to the kind of cinema I've done, people approach me with interesting scripts. It's nice to know that there are young writers and directors who are not scared to express their talent. I relish the company of such talents and it shouldn't come as a surprise if I choose to work for first-time directors. I believe that these are the people who will shape our industry.

Fit for stage
I am passionate about theatre. I continue doing my play Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai. It recently grossed over 300 shows and I'm still travelling around the world with it. We are in the process of finalising our new play. The casting is under process and I'm excited about it.

The game master
The reason why I agreed to do this TV project is that I loved the idea behind it. The show compels you to think, atleast it made me think. The whole concept of numbers and how it came into existence is something that intrigued me. Thanks to this show, I learned the importance and the role it plays in our lives.
