"I must have done something good in the 1990s that I got this opportunity to come back after 13 years," the 43-year-old said here Wednesday at the launch of the show. She is known for films like "Hum", "Gopi Kishan" and "Khuda Gawah".
Shilpa, a known face of Hindi cinema in the 1990s, left the industry after marriage.
"I got married in 2000 and I left the industry because my mother believed that everything has a shelf life and you should never try to extend it. So it was important that I got married and have kids and make my home," Shilpa said.
In the show, she plays a housemaid, Kamla Bai who has big dreams for her children.
When asked what dream she harbours for her real-life nine-year-old daughter, Shilpa said, "Right now I don't have to make her anything, it's only studies for her. I just want her to open her books more than the television."
"Ek Mutthi Aasman" also stars Ashish Chowdhry and goes on air Aug 26 on Zee TV.
