The veteran actress has apparently turned down Muzaffar Ali's offer to star in the upcoming sequel

The first rendition of Muzaffar Ali's Umrao Jaan was one of Rekha's most iconic roles on the big screen. However, insiders say the veteran actress has turned down an offer to be part of the film's sequel. Rekha was apparently requested to be a part of Ali's sequel in 'Rekha in Umrao Jaan 2?'. The actress had won the coveted National Award for her performance in the 1981 film.

A source says, `Muzaffar Ali, the director of the film had been working closely with Javed Siddiqui on the sequel and wanted Rekha to be part of their project. But unfortunately for them, Rekha was not keen.


'Insiders say the sequel revolves around Rekha's character seeking revenge from those who wronged her in the first film. `Ali and Javedsaab have given a new twist to the tale,` adds the source.
