Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has issued an artless' political statement backing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a prime ministerial candidate saying she wished to see the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in the top office.

The remark was made by the legendary singer at the inauguration ceremony of a hospital in Pune. The hospital has been named after Deenanath Mangeshkar, father of Lata Mangeshkar.

Following the statement by Lata, the BJP PM candidate addressed the gathering saying he was honoured to be invited for the event by the Mangeshkar family. Lata's sister Asha Bhosle was also on the stage.

But the Congress has reacted sharply saying that Lata has been hegmonistic in her 6 decade career and had not allowed new talent to come up. She used to boycott the music director who provided chance to new singers.

The Congress Spokesman said that Lata had no interest in politics as she rarely attended Rajya Sabha session when she was a member. Her appreciation of Narinder Modi was unfortunate.
