Comedy Nights with Kapil show's eminent character Gutthi enacted by Sunil Grover is in a controversy with Gutthi deciding to leave the show and launch his own on a rival channel.

Talking to the media Sunil Grover the Gutthi man says that he just wanted a hike in his salary as his contract was coming to an end. But a flat no was the answer. Then they proposed that he can do free lancing. During a period of one month of negotiations producer attempted to introduce new characters but none clicked. Finally, they agreed to his terms, but it left a bad taste. Now they don't want him to take the character to another show. If your wife leaves you, don't you have the right to remarry? But he wasn't a wife, only a 'no strings attached prostitute' who was given a stipulated time to carry out a job.

Sunil claims that it he himself who created Gutthi and Kapil did not contribute anything to it. It was 'Comedy Circus' earlier wherein Gutthi as a character was portrayed. He was hired to play multiple characters in Comedy Nights With Kapil when suddenly one day the creative team decided he should play Guthi.

To a question whether Gutthi's popularity make Kapil insecure, Sunil replies fortunately or unfortunately, the show is named after Kapil. He is the monitor of the class. There were days when they didn't speak to each other, but that was because they were preoccupied. He wants to leave with dignity. He had not even announced his withdrawal. In fact, he did seven episodes even after his contract ended. The show gave him the biggest platform to showcase my acting potential. But today, he can say that he saved the broadcasters by voluntarily opting out. Gutthi could take on different forms as a result of which the character grew bigger by the time. A time may have come when they would have felt impelled to clip his wings.

Sunil Grover has been getting a lot of offers since he opted out of the Kapil show. And this is the best phase of his career he feels which needs to cashed in on. He reserves the right to take his art and skills further. Salim-Javed gave Amitabh Bachchan the name Vijay, he gave himself the name Gutthi. If Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan could play Vijay and Rahul in so many movies, why can't he play Guthi again?

The channel has issued a public notice that underlines the fact that he can not play Gutthi's character on any other channel. That tantamount to asking his to stop earning his lively hood. This is entirely unacceptable to him. He could have thought of stopping playing Gutthi had the things been sorted out amicably. He does not like someone forcing orders on him. Now, he wants to retain the rights to the name. But if they get another actor playing Guthi on Comedy Nights With Kapil, he will not oppose because this show gave him a platform that changed his life. This controversy has only made him bigger.
