But the Harry referred to was not Anand but boy wizard Harry Potter - the worldwide craze around the launch of the latest J.K. Rowling book has caused a big stir and massive publicity here as well.
But the short-lived belief of amazing adulation was not entirely out of place as fans mobbed Anand and his trio of dancers who started off a South African concert tour with appearances at two venues here.
First, at the Signet Terrace shopping centre in Lenasia, the Anand team was feted with a huge birthday cake by national radio station Lotus FM, which was broadcasting live from there.
Despite the biting cold, scores of fans persisted in getting Anand to sing and sign autographs for them.
Heavily wrapped up against the cold, Anand obliged, even getting fans to sing along.
Then it was off to the suburb of Fordsburg in central Johannesburg, where again Lotus FM hosted a bhangra party into the early hours of Saturday morning at the headquarters of Global Bollywood Music, South Africa's agent for T-Series, which releases Anand's remix albums.
As fans clamoured to buy his latest album and get it autographed, Anand was pleasantly surprised to find an album of remix songs titled "Happy Birthday".
"This was my first album released way back in 1995," Anand told, as he signed it and proudly handed it to his young daughter Goornoor as a gift.
Anand and his team performed at Carnival City, east of here, Saturday evening and will stage shows in Durban.
Anand's specialty of putting modern beats to classic Indian film songs is extremely popular in South Africa, with his work featuring regularly at clubs here.
