Addressing students during a talk on communal harmony in the city Friday evening, the actress advised them not to erase memories of the violence "so that we learn from our past mistakes".
Das gave a short speech on the subject "Youth and Communal Harmony" and answered patiently questions posed by students at the talk organised by Lajja Memorial Programme in a city college hall.
"Had justice been done to riot-affected people, it would have been okay. We do not learn lessons from history. Hence, we have to recall things so as to avoid its recurrence. That is why we still make films on the partition," said Das to a student's query about the reason why they were repeatedly reminded of the 2002 violence.
"It's time to wake up and give a denial to the illusion that everything is okay."
The actress stressed on her connection with Gujarat as her maternal family belongs to the state.
