Both Indian and Asoka are doing their utmost with political circuit for exemption of entertaiment tax. While the Centre is still pondering over the rationale behind entertainment tax and its exemption both these movies are hoping that they are eligible for it, as it`s proved in the past that an exemption has a miraculous effect on the viewership of the movie. Both Gadar and Lagaan did very well when the entertainment tax exemption came through after the first two weeks.
If a movie promotes communal harmony and tackles a social problem, an 8-10-member panel is set up by the state from time to time, represented by excise officials and people drawn from all walks of life. And the producers of both these movies reinstate that they deliver a social message. Whether they get a tax exemption or not, we just wonder if Indian and Asoka will have the same success story to boast about like Lagaan and Gadar.
