Based on the conflict between the rebel Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Indian Army, it is the fascinating story of psychological attrition that unfolds on a single night.
On that eventful night, an MNF spokesperson (Kay Kay Menon) and his guerrilla wife (Sonali) confront a civilian doctor (Aditya Srivastava) and try to explain each other's stand.
"Even though the film revolves around an issue and is short in duration, the movie is not an art film as some critics portray it. It is a psychological drama clearly depicting the confusion of three individuals - two Mizo activists and one civilian doctor," Kulkarni told.
Sonali, who is the lead character of the movie and is playing the role of Maria, a guerrilla with the MNF, was here to promote the film.
"The story is sensitive as it speaks about some of the extreme steps of the Indian army and portrays the trauma and suffering of thousands of innocent citizens."
The movie is inspired by the one set thriller "Death and the Maiden" that was directed by Roman Polanski and starred Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley.
The actress said she prepared for her role in great detail.
"The preparation was definitely extensive and I went to Mizoram a number of times before the shooting started. To understand the backdrop of the event, it was necessary to know the place and the people you are going to portray," she added.
About co-star Kay Kay, she said: "Since he is a great actor, we have lots of fun on the set. It was a learning experience for me to be part of the project in general and to be the leading lady opposite Kay Kay."
The movie is directed by first time filmmaker Kanika Verma. Filmed within a time frame of 25 days under a shoestring budget of Rs.15 million, it tries to speak about violence, torture and finally its resolution.
"Dansh" will be released Aug 26.
