More than a decade-and-a-half after TV serial Fauji on Doordarshan launched a young actor from Delhi into a star-making role, the public broadcaster is all set to feature another Khan of equal competence in its detective series Jasoos Vijay that returns to television screens on Sunday, Puri told a news conference here.
''Doordarshan is creating a superstar out of Farhaan Khan,'' said Puri, who will be seen hosting the interactive segments of the programme that has earlier reached 185 million viewers.
Jasoos Vijay, part of an anti-HIV/AIDS campaign by the BBC World Service Trust, NACO and Doordarshan, was named Thriller of the Year at the 2003 Indian Telly Awards.
The mass media project, funded by Britain's Department of International Development, was credited with sharply improving awareness of HIV/AIDS in the country, BBC World Service Trust India Director Andrew Whitehead said.
In his address, Prasar Bharati CEO K S Sarma reiterated the broadcaster's commitment towards ''social change''.
''As equal partners in the media campaign, Prasar Bharati is happy to continue its commitment for social change. This project is a wonderful example of how important it is to tackle HIV/AIDS internationally on a united front. With the access to the biggest audience in India -- maybe even in the world -- which Doordarshan can provide, we are working together for maximum effect,'' Mr Sarma said.
