Actress Sonam Kapoor will be playing Mili in her upcoming film, 'Khubsoorat', that is being produced by sister Rhea Kapoor.
The film is said to be loosely based on the 1980 film of the same name that starred Rekha in the lead role, so the Kapoor sisters now want to seek the veteran actress' blessings. They will soon show the first edit of their film to Rekha.
Says a source, "Sonam Kapoor, who reprises the role that Rekha played in the 1980 film, had sought Rekha's best wishes even before shooting for their film had started. Now that the shoot is over and the post production is on, the Kapoor sisters want to show the first edit of the film to Rekha."
A source close to Sonam adds that the young actress recently bumped into Rekha at an event. "They had a long chat about Sonam's upcoming film and that's when Rekha told Sonam that she wanted to watch the film before lending her support to it."
The source also says that contrary to rumours, Sonam's film is not a remake of the 1980 film. "Sonam and her sister are ardent fans of late director Hrishikesh Mukherjee, who made the classics, 'Khubsoorat' and 'Mili'.
So they decided to have Sonam play a character called Mili in the film and named it 'Khubsoorat'. Their film is inspired by Mukherjee's classic, but it is quite different from the original," says the source.
