Talking her heart out at CNN's Talk Asia, Mallika Sherawat has revealed that her rustic background was completely different to the glamour world she is living in today.

Coming from the Jatland of Haryana it was not easy for her to break the shackles of family and traditions.

"Women in my state are not treated very well. They are inferior. They are made to feel very inferior to men or to boys. So while I was growing up, my father would always say don't wear this, don't do that, don't stay out in the evenings, my mother whacked me once when I tried to put lipstick," she reminisces.

"I think that's why I rebelled. The more you repress something; it bursts out like a volcano and that's what happened with me," she adds.

The 24-year-old believes she has her grey areas and defies the every possible conventional image.

However, back home the news is abuzz that David Dhawan has signed the kiss-miss for his next entertainer, to be produced by UTV, opposite Sanjay Dutt. The film also stars Zayed Khan.
