'Jhand' is a Punjabi word and its literal meaning is shaving of the head. However, it is more used figuratively as slang and it is an older version of the word 'Tawa' which came into existence around early 80s.

Thus most of the current generation would not be aware of this slang as the probably the writer of this movie's story belongs to the earlier generation or he is not aware of the current lingo of the Punjabi youth. So let's see what kind of 'Jhand' is happening in this movie.

"Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi" is the story of two close friends Kuku Mathur (Sidharath Gupta) and Roni Gulatti (Ashish Juneja). Kuku is shown as a comic character who is subjected to 'Jhand' every now and then, that means he is butt of all jokes and his leg is pulled by his peers in school.

Both the friends are keen to succeed in life. Since Kuku lost his mother, he was entrusted with the job of looking after the kitchen and his experience in the kitchen makes him aspire to open a restaurant but his father wants him to be an Engineer. On the other hand, Roni's grandfather runs ancestral business of selling Sarees.

They both complete their 12th and Roni joins his grandfather whereas Kuku is unable to get admission in any college due to his bad grades. As a result, Kuku is idle and expects to experience school times with Roni. However, he feels ignored as Roni is occupied with his family business and can't spare time for his philanderings.

Kuku's idleness also becomes an eye-sore for Roni's family and they discourage Roni to interact with Kuku. Kuku's spat with Roni's parents and Roni siding with them results in their parting ways.

Kuku's cousin Prabhakar (Amit Syal) instigates Kuku to create trouble for Roni. Kuku sets Roni's saree godown on fire causing him a huge financial loss. The duo save some sarees for sale later. The money collected by the cousins is sufficient to launch a restaurant for Kuku.

The story ends when he admits his mistake to Kuku and the friendship between the two is revived.

Being a low budget movie, "Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi" comprises of mostly new faces. However Sidharth and Ashish are unable to do justice in their debut performance. The roles of Sidharath Bhardwaj and Sumesh Aggarwal are insignificant meriting any mention in the review. Amit Syal is able to do well and fill up for the shortcomings of the leading men with his mature acting prowess.

The director partially succeeds in creating light banter in the cinema hall at the cost of Kuku, while screenplay and script push the movie at the pace of a cartwheel. The only thing which comes to the rescue of the viewers shall be some hilarious scenes which might help in recovering the cost. The movie worth a dekko for the youth and is best avoidable for the rest.
