Over the weekend, Amit Sadh left for New York for what is supposed to be one long holiday. The actor was looking forward to his US sojourn but apparently things didn't go as per as his plan, as he was detained at the New York airport for around six hours.
Says a source, `Amit has just wrapped up his work commitments and he has been wanting to catch up with his friends and relatives in the US for quite some time now.
Accordingly, he had planned this trip to the US; he had even purchased some gifts for them. One of the gifts that he was carrying was the holy knife (Kirpan). He wanted to give it to his childhood friend and he had specially asked for it at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. But as soon as Amit landed in New York, he was stopped at the airport. He was detained and questioned for six hours by the airport authorities.`
The source adds, `Initially, the authorities asked him to wait while they processed his documents. Then they warned him that he couldn't enter their country with a knife. Amit tried to convince those officers that it was a sacred object, but they wouldn't listen; they kept insisting that he deposit it with them.
On his part, Amit didn't want to let go of the Kirpan due to its religious significance, so he had an argument with the authorities. Finally, they let him leave the airport with it.`
Amit's spokesperson confirmed the story, saying, `The airport authorities inspected his bag and removed the Kirpan, refusing to give it back. After a six hour interrogation session, they let Amit go with the Kirpan.`
