Yesteryears actress Nadira's condition remains serious after she was admitted to the intensive care unit in Mumbai's Bhatia Hospital with meningitis.

She was admitted to hospital six days ago after she complained of chest pain.

According to doctors, her liver and chest were infected and they could not say she was out of danger.

The actress, who was mostly seen in negative roles in the 1950s and 60s, has two brothers. They have not visited her yet, but she is surrounded by her friends, neighbours and her housekeeper in the hospital.

Nadira used to live alone in Mumbai, but she has kept away from limelight for the last few years. She was last seen in 2000 in Mansoor Khan's "Josh". Before that she did a role in Mahesh Bhatt's "Tamanna" in 1997. She also worked in TV serial "Margaritta" with model-turned-actor Milind Soman.
