JAZZY B, the Canada-based Bhangra singer, also known as the ‘Crown Prince of Bhangra', is back again with his new album. Oh Kehri is a compilation of eight songs, which have been penned by the US-based Satinder Kala in association with Pinda Dhaliwal, Makhan Luharanwala, KS Dialpuri and Jasvir Gunachauria. Sukhshinder Shinda, who is based in the UK, has composed the music.
Jaswinder Singh Bains, Jazzy B, is a known artist especially in the UK and US Bhangra markets and has slowly been also make his mark in mainstream indi-pop. An artist who started early with Ghughian Da Jora, Jazzy B is a well-known singer in the Bhangra category. With this album, he just goes a step forward in cementing his position.
The album begins with Dil, which doesn't contain a pure Punjabi sound. It has dominantly Western beats, which are occasionally interspersed with some Eastern tunes. The down factor in this number is that the sound sometimes is a little too synthetic.
The title track Oh Kehri is a typical love song, basically praising the beauty of the beloved. A video too has been made for this track, which has been filmed in exotic locales of Malaysia on the beautiful model Celina Jaitley. In the same league we have Loko and Kudi.
Keh Gaya is a typical dance number, which is followed by Naag. This number explores the done-to-death theme of snake-like long black lustrous hair, which mesmerise the lover. As far as the sound is concerned, devoid of western instrumentation, this is one of the better tracks on the album.
There is a singular sad song Kudi, where the singer expresses his hurt when the woman he loves is getting married to someone else.
Where lyrics go, the album is average. And as far as sound is concerned some songs are interesting, which probably is due to the peppiness of Punjabi music.
Although there is nothing spectacular in the content of this album, Jazzy B at least has a decent voice. Some of the songs do sound good. However, unless you are an ardent Bhangra fan, you won't lose much if you skip this album.
