Actor Hrithik Roshan filed a complaint with the Mumbai police on Friday, accusing an unknown person of using an email address similar to his and impersonating him. The actor has asked the police to get the account terminated and also trace its owner.
According to the police, Hrithik wrote in his letter that the email ID he has been using for the past several years is hroshan@mac.com. He said he interacts with fans through this account, and talks to his celebrity fans. Besides this, he also uses Facebook and Twitter to interact with fans.
Sources said the actor's fans and friends in Bollywood told him that they had been communicating regularly with him on hroshan@email.com for over two years. In the complaint, the actor explained that he has a die-hard fan following and many express it beyond words.
Some fans send poems, love letters and marriage proposals.
Young boys and girls send provocative, and sometimes even nude, pictures of themselves to him, in hope of expressing their love for him or getting some work in Bollywood.
The actor mentions the case of one such young girl, who has sent many of her photographs and video clips to the imposter account, thinking she was sending it to Hrithik.
After she got to know that it was not the actor's original account, she informed him about her situation.
Hrithik said the matter is serious and these pictures and clips could be misused to ruin the reputation the girl. In his four-page complaint sent to Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria, Juhu police, the Mumbai Police Cyber Cell and others, the actor has requested the police to shut down hroshan@email.com and also trace the fraud operating the account.
Confirming the same, Hrithik's lawyer, Dipesh Mehta, said, "The complaint has been filed with the cops. We are looking into the matter and hope to trace the person at the earliest. Hrithik has full faith that the police will book the culprit." Police are likely to register an FIR in the case soon.
CP Maria said, "We are probing the complaint to identify the perpetrator."
