It was yet another unimpressive weekend at the box office that has barely seen any fireworks post Diwali. Last Friday's three releases - 'Main Aur Mr Riight', 'Badlapur Boys' and 'Life Mein Twist Hai' - have bombed at the box office.
Exhibitor Rajesh Thadani says, "None of them got respectable numbers at the box office while a Hollywood film, 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' found more audience. Only Rajinikanth's 'Lingaa', which was released in Tamil and Telugu down South and a few places in Mumbai, has done well." Thalaiva's film has grossed over Rs 100 crore within the first three days of its release.
Expressing concern over the series of box office duds post 'Happy New Year' which released on Diwali, trade analyst Amod Mehra says, "It appears as if the audience has suddenly decided to refrain from movies."
Trade pundits and distributors are hoping that Aamir Khan-starrer 'pk' will salvage the box office's dismal run this Friday. "The pricing for 'pk' tickets has gone up by 15 per cent. During Eid and Diwali, multiplexes increased the ticket rates. Now as a Christmas gift to cinegoers, they should reduce the ticket costs."
