"Babbar has been a dedicated socialist and working selflessly for consolidating the party base in the Agra region and now that he is raising his voice against injustice, we are bound to support him in the name of humanity," Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) president Salman Khursheed told newspersons here.
"In the past, in the name of decency we had maintained silence on the wrong deeds in the party but in this case we will support Babbar who has been made a victim," Khursheed said referring to Babbar's reported statements questioning the utility of Amar Singh in the party and the prominence given to him over other senior leaders.
Khursheed said that he has already congratulated Babbar for revolting against the injustices.
Reiterating that Samajwadi Party's days were numbered, Khursheed also took exception to the selective leakage of Mau riots report in the media at a time when the Vidhan Sabha was in session.
Reacting on the contents of the report as reported in the media, Khursheed said an effort has been made to put the entire blame on the administration so that the government could go scot free.
Even if the report blamed the administration, government could not not be absolved of its responsibility as they had appointed the officials there, Khursheed said adding that the riots have put the government in the dock and it should be punished.
Khursheed said Governor T V Rajeswar and State Election Commissioner A P Singh have also expressed reservations over the state of affairs in the state.
