It has been widely reported that Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar, will be co-edited by Hollywood's Thelma Shoonmaker, who is the editor for Martin Scrocese's films. What is not known is that the forthcoming Bollywood film almost got stolen, literally. We hear that the Bombay Velvet hard drive almost got stolen while the film's Indian editor Prerna Saigal was in New York. Working on the edit with Thelma, a burglar broke into the place rented out for her by the producers.
Our source reveals, "Phantom, the production house, had made this accommodation arrangement for Prerna even though she had asked to be booked into a hotel. Fortunately for the movie's team, the two women saved the hard drive, though Prerna's iPad mini got stolen. The house owner's MacBook Pro and a few other expensive things too got stolen. Prerna called 911 and reported the officials from New York Police Department (NYPD)."
We have a copy of the mail Prerna is believed to have sent to the film's producers, complaining about not being given the accommodation address till she landed in the US. "The burglar tried to steal the Bombay Velvet hard drive as well," she has written to the producers, adding, "I understand Phantom wanted to save money fair enough but the things I have lost and time I have spent unnecessarily stressed isn't fair." Further, she wrote: "As an editor of the film, all I asked for a safe private room and bathroom with wifi, no sharing. This is least that can be expected."
Interestingly, after this incident, Prerna was shifted into a proper hotel for the rest of her stay in New York.
