Bollywood playback singer Sonu Nigam says people are sometimes voting for their favourite candidates on the basis of their looks rather than voice in the popular TV talent hunt programmes.

"Sometimes people vote for the contestants on the basis of their looks, hair styles rather than their vocal prowess and deserving candidates have to say good bye from the show. In such a situation, I feel distressed," Nigam, who is playing the role of a judge in a singing talent hunt 'Indian Idol', told reporters on the sidelines of his public performance in the Doon valley last night.

However, when asked whether he felt that only judges should be given the power to decide about the singing talents and public should not be involved in the process, the singer replied in negative.

"It is ultimately the public, which make a star. So they should have the power to choose."

"As judges of the show, we can only try to educate people about music and singing to help them take right decisions." Nigam said he would like to sing for Garhwali movies as his mother belongs to Garhwal region of Uttaranchal.

"If I am given an opportunity to sing for Garhwali movies, I would certainly grab it," Nigam said adding, he had already recorded a Garhwali song for an album.

The singer, who had also donned the mantle of an actor in a few Bollywood films, said he was busy in his singing assignments in Hindi movies and albums and had no time to think about pursuing acting.

"Unless I get a very good project from a big producer and director, I have no time for acting," he said.
