The city police has been consistently cracking the whip on public events that flout the 11 pm deadline for loud music. Barely four days ago, they penalised filmmaker Farah Khan's society secretary for a noisy bash at her house post midnight.
In the latest incident, they brought their own event, Umang Police Show, at the Andheri Sports Complex to a halt when it continued beyond the deadline. While the show - which saw Bollywood stars turning up in full force - had special permission to go on till midnight, a few cops in charge of manning the crowd swung into action and asked the organisers to call it a day. It was 12.20am then and singer Ankit Tiwari was performing on stage.
Ramesh Khadtare, senior police inspector of Amboli police station, however, says, "No rules or regulations were violated. The show was wrapped up before the deadline."
However, an officer from the DN Nagar police station, who was present at the time of the police intervention, says, "Some of the cops manning the crowd had to stop the event. The organisers obliged and turned off the music immediately."
Interestingly, Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria was also present at the show.
