"I'm very excited! It's a great and fantastic platform to showcase one's film. Also, the Berlin film fest not just has a great reputation, it also has a great film market," Kukunoor told IANS.
The movie has been invited for the Generation Kplus programme at the gala, which is scheduled to be held Feb 5-15.
'Dhanak' revolves around an eight-year-old visually challenged boy, whose elder sister promises him that his vision will return before his ninth birthday. This leads to a journey through Rajasthan. It features Hetal Gada and Krrish Chhabria in lead roles.
Known for making socially relevant movies, Kukunoor feels 'Dhanak' has the potential to have a commercial market.
"I think that the thinking that 'once a film gets into festival, it can't have a great commercial release', is eventually changing. I feel this film has the potential to uplift the commercial market as well," said the director, who is credited with films like 'Rockford', 'Iqbal', 'Dor' and 'Lakshmi'.
