Director Gautam Ghosh has signed Rekha for the role of Lajwanti- a courtesan in his next film Yatra which is based on Nana Patekar's novel.

Ghosh claims that he wanted Rekha for the role because she is synonyms with mystery, and this character needed someone mysterious like her.

When Ghosh approached her for the film, she wanted to see a script, so he sent her a bound script and after a week she called him up and agreed to do the film.

Rekha is playing a courtesan after 22 years. She last played one in Shashi Kapoor' Utsav. The film is complete and will soon be in the process of dubbing. The other actors in the film include Nana Patekar, Deepti Naval, Romit Raaj, Anandi and Nakul Vaid.

Going gaga over the vetran actress, who recently won the life time achievement award at the Zee Cine Awards 2006, Ghosh tells,"Rekha was very co-operative and got along well with all her co-stars and played her role impeccably."
