Two years ago when Deepa Mehta decided to cast Kareena Kapoor as Kalyani in Water she wanted to cast the same actress in a rustic comedy about two rival kushti (wrestling) gangs in a village akhada (ring) and how they come together because of this girl.
Plenty of Water has flown under the bridge. And Deepa Mehta is ready to finally attempt another comedy after Hollywood/Bollywood.
"To get over the grim and disturbing experience of making Water and to catch my breath before going on to my next big film Komagata Maru which will again require a lot of my energy and emotions," reveals Deepa. "You could say it is the bridge over troubled water."
Pausing to chuckle she continues, "I'll have to wait for Mr Bachchan to read my script and allot the dates for Komagata Maru. Until then I want to make this start-to-finish comedy about a wacky ayah who works for a Canadian couple. It's a hilarious script ."
Deepa has already decided whom to cast. "But I don't want to reveal the actress' name right now. I've had some terrible experiences with star tantrums while casting for Water. Let's hope the actress whom I've in mind turns out to be professional about her job."
