Her favourite sport is Basketball to which she has been committed since a little girl and has even competed in international tournaments.
Where did you grow up? Tell us a little about your home town/city, and family.
I was born in Sinaloa, a state located in the north of Mexico. Sinaloa hides beauty at each corner and it’s one of the most beautiful and important states, both in nature and culture.
I first opened my eyes in the city of Culiacan. This city not only preserves its tradition and roots, but also is open to modernity and technology. We have three important rivers: The Tamasula, The Culiacan and the Himalaya. My father Alfredo was a conservative, charming and kind man with great personality and height. He was an enemy of injustice as the great lawyer he was and was endlessly in love with my mother Sandra.
My mother is a beautiful woman with an unusual height for Mexican a woman, that’s why she practiced basketball with my father for many years. She is a very strong and brave person but sweet and sensitive at the same time.
I grew up with my sister Nohemi and my brothers, Alfredo and Jose. I spent some of the most important moments and shared my most amazing experiences with them.
I am a privileged woman for being born in a gorgeous country and being raised inside a beautiful family who taught me to love and to achieve success.
What Jobs have you done? What was the most interesting/bizarre?
At the beginning of my career I had the chance to work for two years in a Telecommunication Company, where I could develop my knowledge in administrative areas.
It was after, that I discovered my passion for training children between 6 and 8 years old. So I became a basketball trainer. My work with these little kids brought me the opportunity of becoming a better human being, because there are a lot of things we can learn from children and one of them is honesty. When I started training these kids, some of my goals were to transmit them love of sports, discipline, courage and devotion. I enjoyed a lot training children but I never suspected how much I was going to learn from them, and that’s why it was a beautiful experience.
What are your career ambitions, how do you plan to realise them?
Winning Miss World is the goal I’m working for right now. Another goal I have is to some day reach my dream as an international model. I want to show the world that Mexican women have the capability, quality and professionalism of being successful internationally.
I wouldn’t leave my administration career on the side, that’s why I would like to mix it with my modelling career, creating my own business of fashion design.
I know that to reach this goal I need discipline, devotion, effort, ambition and love for what I do.
What is the proudest moment of your life? (Not including winning your National Title)
When I represented my country in an International Basketball Tournament because that experience taught me that anything you wish for can come true with hard work, effort and dedication.
What was the funniest/most embarrassing moment of your life?
A friend and I were at school; it was our last class at night. This class lasted more than usual and we were starving, so we decided to run to the cafeteria before it closed. However, we didn’t realize the floor was wet, so our entrance was spectacular, because my friend slipped and landed against the counter. I kept sweeping between the tables like in baseball and stopped at the last one. Everybody looked at us and started laughing, not only because of our arrival but also because afterwards we had to pick up all the change that had fallen on the floor.
How has your life changed since winning your National Title?
My life has had 360 degrees turn. It has been a full time learning experience. I’ve had to cope with the nostalgia of missing my beloved family and friends who had been with me all my life. I’ve learned to solve any problem or situation by myself. I’ve become independent and self aware of my virtues and my flaws. I’ve learned to realize the long journey I’ve been through and the great effort I’ve done. To think about my future is to look outside a window and find a bright light in the horizon, that light represents all the learning and the experiences I’ve been through in this wonderful journey. I’ve learned to be a better woman and a better human being.
Tell us about an interesting event you have attended, or a person that you have met.
Being at the Official Residence and meeting the President of my country, Vicente Fox and his wife Martha Sahagun was the most interesting event I’ve been to and the most interesting people I’ve met this year. They both are great human beings that play a very important role in the history of democracy of Mexico.
What would you like to do, if you became Miss World 2004?
Not only will I enjoy all the wonderful experiences that being named Miss World will bring me, but also I would love to be a part of Miss World’s program, ‘Beauty with a Purpose’, helping children all around the world, bringing a smile to their faces, giving them hope for a better way of life, raising as much money as I can for them. I know that being Miss World means a lot of work. I am not afraid of working as hard as I can, if my effort can be used to help others. Thanks to the activities I’ve been doing in Mexico, helping homeless and abused girls, I know how big the reward are by just looking at these girls faces, seeing that sparkle in their eyes and that loving smile on their faces.
If you had a personal motto what would it be?
In search of motto which I could identify myself with, I came with a phrase said by the great mahatma Gandhi: ‘Make your everyday minimum like your maximum’ (HAZ DIARIO TU MINIMO COMO TU MAXIMO), because I think it’s only good to dream when those dreams are attached to reality and you work every day to reach them.
Give details of any charitable work undertaken?
Two years ago, our organization began a program in which all the queens and ex queens of Nuestra Belleze were involved. We worked with abused and homeless girls that are now being part of a rehabilitation program and are being supported in a home that gives them food, shelter, education and medical assistance.
We invite specialists in useful and interesting topics, such as: dentists, psychologists, physical trainers, actors, etc; All of these specialists in the company of a beauty queen or ex queen, spend some quality time with them.
The support program is called ‘A Dream Being Born’. This name was given because abused girls have dreams and goals and deserve a chance to accomplish them.
