Subhash Kapoor, director of Phas Gaye Re Obama, a small budget comedy starring Neha Dhupia and Rajat Kapoor, says the film shows the repercussions of the global recession on the world of crime.
The film traces the journey of Om Shashtri, an American citizen of Indian origin, who loses all his wealth overnight to the global recession & has been asked to vacate his home by the bank unless he pays up $100,000 (mortgaged amount) within 30 days.
Seeing no other option Om comes to India to sell a small piece of an ancestral property. But within days of landing in India he is kidnapped by a 'recession-hit' underworld gang those who think that he is still a millionaire.
What happens to Om, is he able to save his home, how did the 'poor' gangster cope with their 'poor' catch & what do small town Indian gangsters have to say to President Obama... that's what the film is all about.
'People see the global recession as a phenomena triggering unemployment and fall in market income. But it had a deep impact on everyone and we have taken an initiative to portray this anxiety in a humourous way,' said director Subhash Kapoor.
The director claimed said that the December 3 release is the first film to be made on the economic crisis' effects on the crime world.
PGRO is made on an economical budget of Rs 3 crore. The director believes that if a film has a great storyline with excellent execution then it is destined to receive a thumbs up from the audience.
