Russia Announces World's First COVID-19 Vaccine; President Vladimir Putin's Daughter Gets First Shot
Crippling the world economy, the novel coronavirus pandemic has infected more than 20 million people and killed nearly 750,000 worldwide. Now, on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed that they have developed the first vaccine offering "sustainable immunity" against the coronavirus.

During a televised video conference call with government ministers, Vladimir Putin said, "This morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the new coronavirus was registered in Russia. One of my daughters had this vaccine. I think in this sense she took part in the experiment."

According to the 'Live Mint' report, the President further thanked everyone who worked on the vaccine's development and described it as 'a very important step for the world'. He hopes the country's research body will soon start mass production of the coronavirus vaccine and said, "I know that it works quite effectively, forms strong immunity, and I repeat, it has passed all the needed checks."

According to Associated Press reports, the President emphasized that the vaccine underwent the necessary tests. He added that one of his two daughters has received a shot of the vaccine and is feeling well. "However, the vaccine's registration is conditional and trials will continue while the production gets underway", said Murashko.

Russia's first coronavirus vaccine is developed jointly by Gamaleya Research Institute and the Russian Defence Ministry. Clinical trials of the vaccine began on June 18th and included 38 volunteers. All of the participants developed an immunity. The first group was discharged on July 15th and the second group on July 20th.

Talking about Russia then, they have registered 4,945 new cases of the novel coronavirus, pushing its national case tally to 897,599, the fourth largest in the world, on the other side, The USA is on the top of the list with 5,251,446 cases till date. Meanwhile, last week the 'World Health Organization' urged Russia to follow established guidelines and go "through all the stages" necessary to develop a safe vaccine.
