Man Seeks Divorce From Wife as She Did Not Reveal About Periods on Wedding Day
Despite women organisations and activists working to destigmatise menstruation, there seems to be no end to it.

In a shocking incident reported from the Vadodara district of Gujarat, a man has sought divorce from his wife after she failed to reveal her periods on the day of the wedding.

The city-based professional claimed this he and his mother were shocked when they came to know about the woman's periods on the wedding day. The man also said that their 'faith was violated' over the issue.

Filing a divorce petition in the family court, the man further claimed that his wife told him about her periods just moments before they visited a temple for prayers after completing the marriage ceremony.

The couple got married in January this year. While the woman is a teacher, the man works in a private company.

In his petition, the man further alleged that his wife asked him not to contribute to family expenses as his elder brother was already taking care of the house. The man also said she asked him to give her Rs 5,000 every month for expenses and demanded an air conditioner be installed at the house.

The petitioner claimed that when he told his wife that he can't afford an AC, she quarreled with him and left the house to live with her parents.

The man said he tried to reason with her several times but she kept going back to her homes and not return for several days.

According to the man, his wife shocked him one day when he was having a walk on his terrace. The man alleged she told him that she would have slept with 10 other men on her wedding night had she known that the man won't be able to afford luxuries for her.

The man said he ignored his wife's 'shocking words' and continue to reason with her but in vain. He alleged that one day she threatened him with suicide by jumping from the terrace.

He further claimed that he was forced to file for the divorce as, after the wife gave false complaints against him and his family at Bapod police station. "The petition has been registered at the family court and the court will take it up for hearing," said his lawyer.
