A firm founded by three IITians' (Alumni of Indian Institute of Technology- Bombay) who studied from the top engineering institute has signed a 130-crore drone-making contract with the Indian Army. The organization, IdeaForge Technology, was founded by Ankit Mehta, Rahul Singh, and Ashish Bhat at IIT-Bombay Incubator SINE in 2007.
Talking about the drone setup, the fixed-wing UAV, capable of vertical takeoff and landing, can be deployed for day-and-night surveillance at high altitudes and rugged conditions, that is created by IIT Bombay alumni. It works manually and, relative to any other UAV in its class, has the highest time on target.
In a statement on its website, the firm said it would supply "undisclosed quantities of a high-altitude variant of ideaForge's Switch UAV" to the Indian Army.
On the Facebook page, IIT-Bombay congratulated its Alumni for this achievement by penning down this -"Congratulations to SINE and our hearty congratulations to Ankit, Rahul and Ashish. It is worth mentioning that they were bestowed with the Young Alumni Achiever award last year."
The company said, "ideaForge has been awarded this contract after it emerged as the only vendor that qualified the operational requirements in an evaluation done in real-world conditions, for a fast-track procurement."
The CEO of ideaForge, Ankit Mehta said in the statement, "Switch UAV is the culmination of insights and knowledge we have gained over years of experience in helping the Indian forces operationalize UAVs in their ranks. The trials saw about a dozen national and global players compete to meet the operational requirements. It is the only product that cleared the Indian Army's stringent product trials and surpassed expectations."
In fact, The alma mater of the company's founders, IIT Bombay, also congratulated them on their success after the news get out.
