In a bizarre incident, as much as 29,000 litres of liquor went missing from police stations in Haryana. The case of missing booze is not limited to one police station. Instead, liquor kept at 25 different police stations is said to be missing.
The missing liquor raised suspicion as booze went missing from 25 out of the 30 police stations. Reportedly, the police seized around 50,000 litres of country-made liquor, 30,000 litres of English Wine and 3,000 cans of beer. The police also registered 825 cases in relation to the seized liquor.
The huge stock of liquor has gone missing at a time when the 825 cases awaited trial in court, and the liquor was stored in the concerned police station's store rooms. As per normal protocol, after the verdict is announced on seized liquor, it is usually destroyed by officials. However, this year, the liquor went missing before it could be destroyed, said a Aaj Tak report.
As the cases awaited trial, the liquor was stored in the police station store rooms, also known as 'malkhana'. After the verdict is announced, normal protocol is followed and the liquor is destroyed. This year, however, the liquor went missing before it could be destroyed, Aaj Tak reported.
On being asked about the missing liquor, the cops pinned the blame on rats. They alleged that rats drank all the alcohol stored in the store rooms.
Another fact which is of relevance is that for storing purposes at any police station, the seized country-made liquor is stored in plastic bottles and are poured into drums. On the other hand, English Wine or imported liquor is stored in glass bottles. Both the containers cannot be nibbed on by rats and yet the police department pinned the blame on them.
Further probe is underway.
