School Warns Mothers Not to Wear Skimpy Clothes That Look Like Underwear While Dropping off Kids
A primary school in UK has been criticized for shooting off a letter to mothers of kids warning them not to wear skimpy or revealing outfits when coming to drop off their kids. In a note titled Playground Etiquette sent to parents of the children at Seymour Primary school in West Sussex's Crawley, mothers have been told off for wearing revealing tops, pyjamas and clothes that 'look like underwear', while dropping or picking their children in school, The Sun reported.

The letter, sent to parents of the children said that dressing in 'revealing' clothes was not appropriate for the school environment and also urged the families to 'set a good example'.

It added that some of the mothers have been coming to pick up or drop their wards at school gates in mini-skirts, low-cut tops, pyjamas and clothing that 'looks like underwear'.

"Wearing clothes that are too skimpy or for other times of day is not setting a good example," the letter said.

Several parents criticized the letter sent by the school, calling it 'over the top' in its tone while some said that the letter insinuated that mothers were dressing in a 'tarty way', The Sun was reported as saying.

After the initial criticism, the school's senior staff reportedly backed down from the harsh wording of the letter and issued a follow-up note where it admitted that the original wording of the letter 'could have been less prescriptive' and they only meant to make it sound like a guidance and nothing else.

The statement said, "In response to increasing numbers of parents wearing pyjamas and, at times revealing clothing that looked like underwear, the school issued a note asking parents to consider dressing more appropriately. Whilst well intended as guidance, the school acknowledges the wording could have been less prescriptive."

However, according to reports, there were not the only reactions to the strongly-worded letter. Some parents reportedly agreed with the school's warning and admitted that a few of them maybe did need the stern letter.

In a similar controversy involving students, last year Cowes Enterprise College on the Isle of Wight had also ended up causing a furore among parents after it sent out warnings to students for wearing skirts they deemed 'too short', even though those were reportedly the longest size available.
