Woman Intentionally Started Wildfires In Greece To 'Watch And Flirt With Firefighters'
The 44-year-old woman reportedly attempted to start several fires, two of which escalated into wildfires, all in an effort to flirt with the firefighters.

A woman in Greece has been arrested for deliberately starting two wildfires, reportedly motivated by a desire to watch and flirt with the firefighters who responded. The incidents, which took place on August 24 and 25 in the Kerasitsa area of Tripoli, Arcadia, stunned the local community and resulted in her sentencing.

The Greek Fire Department issued a statement confirming the arrest, detailing that the woman, a 44-year-old Greek citizen, deliberately set the fires on farmland. The department noted that her actions were not only repeated but also posed a significant threat to the area. "She enjoyed watching firefighters and flirting with them," the statement revealed, highlighting the bizarre motivation behind her dangerous actions.

Suspicion arose when the woman was spotted at both fire sites, prompting an investigation that eventually uncovered her involvement. Local media reported that her presence at the scenes raised red flags, leading authorities to delve deeper into her activities.

The Daily Mail shared further details, including a video of the incident, stating that the woman has received a three-year suspended prison sentence for her actions. The news has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for harsher penalties given the potential danger her actions posed.

"Put her in jail for at least 20 years," one Instagram user commented, reflecting the anger and frustration of many. Another added, "A slap on the hand, there are no consequences to putting these brave heroes in danger intentionally." The general sentiment online has been one of disbelief and anger, with users demanding more severe consequences for such reckless behaviour.

This incident is not the first of its kind in Greece. Recently, a 51-year-old man was also arrested for repeatedly and intentionally starting fires on farmland, resulting in a fine of $1,550. In Greece, even accidentally starting a wildfire is considered a criminal act, as the country has stringent laws in place to prevent such disasters. The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, emphasised the severity of the issue, stating, "The law is now stricter than ever, and negligence constitutes a criminal act."
