With talk of assembly elections in the air, Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari announced that battery-powered rickshaws, known as e-rickshaws, would not be considered motor vehicles, and hence won`t be covered under the Motor Vehicles Act. In other words, it will virtually be a free-for-all for e-rickshaws. The move is seen as an act of political one- upmanship to counter AAP , who have taken up the cause of e-ricks.
