Mirza Ghalib Shayari

  • Jab Woh Jamaal-e-Dilfaroz, Surat-e-Mehr-e-Nim Roz;
    Aap Hi Ho Nazara Soz, Parde Mein Munh Chhupaye Kyon;
    Dashna-e-Ghamza Jaan Sataan, Naawak-e-Naaz Be Panah;
    Tera Hi Aks-e-Rukh Sahi, Samne Tere Aaye Kyon!

    Translation:
    The glorious beauty of that face, so much like the midday sun,
    The manifests such blinding light, needs nothing like a veil.
    Weaponry of seduction, arrows of untold invitation,
    Could injure the reflected as much as the admirer.
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
  • Dil Hi To Hai Na Sang-o-Khisht, Dard Se Bhar Na Aaye Kyon;
    Royenge Hum Hazar Baar Koi Humein Sataye Kyon;
    Daer Nahi, Haram Nahi, Dar Nahi, Aastaan Nahi;
    Baithe Hain Rehguzar Pe Hum Gair Humein Uthaye Kyon!

    Translation:
    It is only a heart, not stone or mortar, why should it not fill with pain,
    We will wail a thousand times, why should anyone torment us.
    It is not a temple, mosque, a dearly beloved's door, nor a patron's entryway,
    We are wayfarers, why should anyone evict us!
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
  • Yak Nazar Besh Nahi Fursat-e-Hasti Ghafil;
    Garmi-e-Bazm Hai Ek Raqs-e-Sharar Hone Tak;
    Gham-e-Hasti Ka Asad Kis Se Ho Juz Marg Ilaz;
    Shama Har Rang Mein Jalti Hai Sahar Hone Tak!

    Translation:
    Leisure for life is no more than the flash of a glance, o ignorant,
    The warmth of festivity is one dance of the flame,
    Asad, what can cure the grief of existence, except dying,
    The candle is obliged to burn before extinguishing at dawn.
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
  • Hum Ne Mana Ki Taghaful Na Karoge Lekin;
    Khaak Ho Jayenge Hum Tumko Khabar Hone Tak;
    Partawe-e-Khur Se Hai Shabnam Ko Fanaa Ki Taleem;
    Main Bhi Hun Ek Inayat Kee Nazar Hone Tak!

    Translation:
    I agree that you will not remain indifferent but,
    I will be dust by the time you become aware of me,
    The sun's ray teaches a dewdrop how to vanish,
    I live because you have not bestowed the grace of your attention upon me.
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
  • Aashiqui Sabr Talab Aur Tamanna Betaab;
    Dil Ka Kya Rang Karoon Khoon-e-Jigar Hone Tak!

    Translation:
    Love demands endurance, while desire is consuming,
    What should be my state untill obsession devours patience.
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
  • Aah Ko Chahiye Ek Umr Asar Hone Tak;
    Kaun Jeeta Hai Teri Zulf Ke Sar Hone Tak;
    Dam Har Mauj Mein Hai Halqa-e-Sad Kaam-e-Nihang;
    Dekhein Kya Guzre Hai Qatre Pe Guhar Hone Tak!

    Translation:
    A sigh requires a lifetime to take effect,
    Who lives to reach the source of your journey,
    The gaping mouths of a hundred crocodiles form netted traps in each wave,
    Consider the labour within the sea-change of a raindrop to a pearl.
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
  • Ghalib Nadeem-e-Dost Se Aati Hai Bu-e-Dost;
    Mashghul-e-Haq Hoon Bandagi-e-Bu Turaab Mein!

    Translation:
    Ghalib, the fragrance of the Lord emantes from the Lord's Companion,
    Recognizing Ali has become a business of my truth.
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
  • Hai Ghalib Ghalib Jisko Samjhtey Hain Hum Shuhood;
    Hain Khwab Mein Hanooz Jo Jaage Hain Khwab Mein!

    Translation:
    The deep decorum of the hidden is misread as revelation,
    The clairvoyant lost in dreams, dreams he is awake.
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
  • Aarish-e-Jamaal Se Faarigh Nahi Hanooz;
    Pesh-e-Nazar Hai Aaina Daaim Naqab Mein!

    Translation:
    The embellishment of the ravishing is never to be done,
    Inside the seculusion of the veil, the mirror lives constantly.
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
  • Sharam Ek Ada-e-Naaz Hai Apne Hi Se Sahi;
    Hai Kitne Behijab Ki Yun Hai Hijab Mein!

    Translation:
    Reticence is a form of pride, even with oneself,
    No matter how unveiled you are within your many veils.
    ~ Mirza Ghalib
